Hydraulic disc brakes are arguably the best addition to bicycle since the brake, it self. Hydraulic disc brakes, the same types brakes you have in your car, provide a safer and more consistent riding experience. Hydraulic disc brakes do not have the same brake in period as cable brakes, since there is no cable to stretch or housing to compress. They are more reliable than rim brakes because they do not require the same force to stop and use a much harder brake pad material.
Why You Need It:
Your brakes may be working great, which makes most think they they don’t need service, but hydraulic fluid gets dirty, which leads to degraded seals and eventually lose of braking power. Some brake fluids, DOT, are hydroscopic, which means they can absorb moisture and the fluid can swell causing stiff brakes or over pressure of the system.
